Abstract

Commissioner Yonas Adeto explores the intricacies of strategic competition in the Horn of Africa, tracing its historical underpinnings from colonialism to the present-day geopolitical landscape. Highlighting the proliferation of foreign military bases and the convergence of geopolitical, economic, and historical factors in the region, Adeto contends that Africa serves as a focal point for global powers. He makes sure to point out  the multifaceted transnational security threats facing the continent, positing cooperation rooted in the African philosophy of Ubuntu as a viable alternative to the prevailing paradigm of strategic competition. By advocating for dialogue and diversity, Adeto presents a pathway toward peace and prosperity in an increasingly interconnected world.
