Abstract

In his motivational commencement address to the Juniata College Class of 2025 graduates, Dr. James M. Metz, a distinguished physician and Juniata alumnus, reflects on the power of community, perseverance, and purpose. From his days as a student-athlete at Juniata to becoming a radiation oncologist at the University of Pennsylvania. Through stories of resilience, teamwork, and mentorship, he encourages graduates to stand confidently in their Juniata education, to pursue their passions, and to embrace the unexpected paths they will encounter.

Dr. Metz emphasizes the value of in-person connections and the unexpected outcomes that come with them. He reminds the graduates that the relationships we build today may lead to the innovations of tomorrow. He offers a message of living life fully and intentionally, today and every day. Finally, he commends the Class of 2025 on their efforts in advancing accessibility at Juniata and announces a personal endowment to support Student Accessibility Services. He urges graduates to stay engaged with Juniata and challenges them to pay it forward through mentorship, advocacy, and generosity. Dr. Metz’s address is a celebration of the moment and a call to action, inspiring the newest Juniata alumni to carry the values of Juniata into the world, making an impact with it.
